My Footsteps™

How it works

A memory, left exactly where it belongs.

What do you want to leave? Where should it wait? Who is it for, and when should they find it? My Footsteps™ lets you leave messages and photos connected to the places of your life — so one day, the people you love can follow in your footsteps.

  1. Hands writing a letter at a wooden table beside a cup of tea and an old photograph
    01

    Leave something for them

Write a message for someone you love and give it a title if you'd like. Add photos to help preserve the story, moment or memory you want to leave behind.

You can also leave a hint — a small clue that can help guide them toward the place without giving it away.

  2. A man pausing at a brick building with a green door on a cobblestone street at golden hour
    02

    Choose the place

Decide where your message will be waiting. Search for a place, use where you are right now, or pinpoint the exact spot.

You can also decide how close your loved one needs to be before the message can be revealed.

  3. A grandmother and her son laughing together on a neighborhood sidewalk
    03

    Choose who it's for

Select the person or people you want to receive your message.

If someone you love isn't using My Footsteps™ yet, simply enter their email address — your message will be connected to them when they join.

  4. An old garden gate in soft natural light
    04

    Choose when

This step is optional. If there's a particular date or moment you want your message to wait for, choose the date and time before which it can't be revealed — and whether they need to reach both the place and the time.

Some memories are meant for a certain place.

Some are meant for a certain time.

    Some are meant for both.

  5. A woman pausing at an ocean overlook in soft early morning light

    Review and leave it behind

Before finishing, look over everything one last time:

    • Your message and photos
    • The place
    • How close your loved one needs to be
    • Who it's for
    • Any time you've chosen

Then leave it there, for the future.

And then, it waits.

Days may pass. Months. Even years.

But the message remains connected to the place you chose, waiting for the person you left it for.

And one day, when the right person reaches the right place — and, if you've chosen, the right time — something you left behind becomes theirs to discover.

The place

As close as you want them to be.

Maybe they only need to reach the park. Maybe you want them standing almost exactly where you once stood. You decide how close they need to be before your message can be revealed.

The hint

Give them a little clue.

Leave a hint that points them toward the place without giving it away. Something like:

  • "Where we always stopped for ice cream."
  • "The bench with the best view."
  • "Remember our first trip here?"

They follow in your footsteps.

Messages left across different places can become a journey through the places, stories and experiences of your life.

Questions

What is My Footsteps™?

My Footsteps™ lets you leave messages, memories, stories and photos connected to specific places, for the loved ones you choose. When they visit those places, they can follow in your footsteps.

When is a message revealed?

When your loved one reaches the place where you left it. If you've chosen a time, you can decide whether they need to reach both the place and the time — it may be days, months or even years later.

What if the person I choose isn't using My Footsteps™?

You can enter their email address, and your message will be connected to them when they join.

Does it have to be a meaningful place?

Not at all. It can be a childhood home or a favorite beach, or simply somewhere you visited once on a trip. Sometimes the meaning comes later, when someone follows in your footsteps.

Where would you leave something for them?

A place they know. Somewhere you've traveled. Or a corner of the world they may one day find themselves standing in.
